Cyprus is the latest country to join the remote working revolution!

As hordes of people find new ways of working post-covid, many people are asking themselves why they’re not taking advantage of their new remote status. Many countries have cottoned onto this shift and are beginning to offer ‘remote working visas’ for globe-trotting digital nomads.

The latest country to do this is Cyprus, where foreign nationals can now apply for a remote working visa valid for up to one year, with the option of renewing it for an additional 2 years. This is great news for anyone looking to start a new life with loved ones, as you can even bring your family with you! (There will be an adjustment to the required income)

To qualify single applicants must have an income of at least 3500 euros per month from either employment or a client service and you can be self-employed or working for an employer who is abroad.

There are a few other requirements:

-        You must have proof of health insurance, to the tune of at least 30,000 euros

-        You must have a clean criminal record and proof of this in the form of a background check

-        You must have somewhere to stay, proof of this in the form of a rental agreement or proof of sale for where you’ll stay in Cyprus

-        You must have a valid passport, this means it has at least 3 months remaining

-        Proof of Remote Work, Employment contracts or business documents proving you work remotely

-        Earn at least 3,500 euros per month, prove this with certified bank statements and payslips

If you can meet all these requirements, then why not apply? You’ll need to spend at least 60 days of the year in Cyprus (even if it’s on a beach) and you can’t leave the country for more than 3 months at a time.

It’s also important to note that if you live in Cyprus for more than 183 days out of the year, you will be considered a tax resident, even if you hold the digital nomad visa. You’ll be subject to paying taxes to Cyprus unless you are a tax resident elsewhere. Don’t let this put you off, Cyprus is well known for its desirable tax rates especially for small businesses and corporations – are you still interested?

There’s one more catch – Cyprus has made only 100 visas available! They are rolling this out as a pilot scheme, so be sure to nab yourself one quickly if you qualify.
