Understandably, with not much travel on the horizon and for many of you, no work scheduled in the diary either, renewing your passport is an expense pretty low down on your priority list. For those of you in a position to get your ducks in a row for when travel and live events do resume, in whatever format that may be, the passport office is currently accepting applications in all categories both online and via paper forms. Face to face appointments are currently suspended due to the pandemic. Its worth pointing out that online applications are £9.50 cheaper and postal applications take longer.

As you may have read online, the new UK passports are now blue in a move away from the burgundy books we know, to mark our exit from the EU.

Processing applications – like everything at the moment, is subject to some delays and it can take up to 4 weeks for a renewal or replacement passport, and a little longer if you’re applying for your very first UK Passport. However, if you can demonstrate that you need to get your passport back in hand urgently for compassionate, work, or identity reasons, we can make a special request to the Passport Office and ask them to expedite the application. This shortens the processing time to well within a week. We can assist you with gathering the relevant info and writing appropriate letters too. Remember, when applying or replacing your second passport, you still need to evidence why this is needed. In this current climate, it may be harder to justify, but we can help navigate you through the process if you’re unsure.

As always, please don’t book travel until you have your new passport in hand, as the number will be different to your old one.
